Monsters, they sing the silliest songs

So, Joakim Bouaziz, maybe one of the best producers to find his way to the dancefloors in two or three years (his balaeric reworking of the ancient Antena track 'Camino Del Sol' is so completely incredible that it has to be heard on a big system just to get a tiny understanding of it's greatness), has finally brought his incredibly focused creativity to bear on the 16 wonderful tracks of his latest album, Monsters & Silly Things. Four of the tracks are monsters which could actually frighten some people (Budreaux?). Otherwise, Joakim gives us twelve silly songs which are anything but. They aren't dancefloor burners, but instead are more like the best new wave tracks that you've never heard. "Lonely Hearts" sounds like the end credits to everyone's favorite eighties movie, whatever it is. "I Wish You Were Gone" is the kind of music beings on a distant planet would send in response to picking up mangled transmissions of Gary Numan, Blondie and Bowie. In a way, Joakim is a being, surely distant from our conventions, creating pop music that is to us rich, vibrant and just a little alien. Which leads us to "Drumtrax." It too is from another universe, but a universe which is parallel to ours and only a few feet above the warehouse floor. With "Drumtrax", Joakim lets us dance within his universe, leading us through the galaxies, planets and systems (and at least one black hole), before bringing us back home with, what else, a classic tweaked 303 acid line. "Tanabata" could be called a simple sonata for piano, if it didn't eventually send you reeling into the heavens with it's rising synthetic insanities and overwheming feeling of duality.
